Melanie Hayes

Elementary Teacher, EAL Teacher, Learning Support Teacher
Suzhou,Jiangsu

Summary

I am a passionate and experienced primary school teacher with a strong knowledge of three different curriculum - the British National Curriculum, The International Primary Curriculum and The International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme.
I am skilled in lesson planning, assessment, English as a Second Language, differentiated instruction and international education. I believe that collaboration and cooperation from colleagues, parents and students is essential for students to progress and reach their full potential.
I believe that everyone in the classroom contributes as a student, teacher, and thinker. I learn from my students as much as they learn from me. Every classroom has its own unique community; my role as the teacher is to assist each child in developing their own potential and learning styles. I present a curriculum that incorporates each different learning style, as well as making the content relevant to the students' lives. I incorporate hands-on learning, cooperative learning, projects, themes, and individual work that both engage and develop student learning, communication and cooperation.
I have a strong education background having first studied to be a teacher at Roehampton University London, gaining a second class honours degree with Qualified Teacher Status. I am now a Lexis Education Certified Trainer of the Teaching Young Children English in Multilingual Contexts course which enables me to share my passion for incorporating ESL learning into mainstream classrooms. As a life long learner I am currently undertaking my Masters in Education at American College of Education studying ESL and Bilingual Education.
I am dedicated to seeing the best in each of my students and enabling them to leave my class with a feeling of self worth and a belief in themselves.
Teaching international students has enabled me to develop an open-minded attitude to learning, an appreciation and respect of different cultures, as well as fostering a curiosity in myself to learn more about my students.
