・New Business Development for Mass Retailers at Nihon Access
Leveraging my strengths in result orientation and problem identification, I successfully secured a new ¥400 million annual banana business for mass retailers, acting from the position of a wholesaler. In 2023, amidst a backdrop of decreasing banana production and rising prices, I faced challenges negotiating and maintaining business with existing clients. The market also experienced heightened price competition due to the rise of manufacturers bypassing wholesalers. Given the trend of shrinking existing business, I focused on expanding the department's sales and profits through new business development. However, it was extremely difficult to significantly increase sales volume due to the challenges of proposing differentiated pricing against existing suppliers and the limited growth in sales of high-value bananas with added value. To counter this, I proactively executed a procurement strategy in anticipation of the spring peak demand season and the declining production volume. By partnering with manufacturers eager to expand their business in Japan and gathering information during regular negotiations with large-scale retailers, I seized the opportunity to secure new business during competitor stockouts. Finally, I succeeded in building a trusting relationship that led to being entrusted with 100% of the share for the new business at the mass retailer within just six months.
